To see one of the man made wonders of the world Mount Rushmore sculpture located in South Dakota on US is a must see. It is a sculpture that is carved out of the granite rocks on the mountain which is a batholith located in the Black Hills in Keystone area. The design was created by Gutzon Borglum, a sculptor who worked on the project with his son and Luigi Del Bianco for a period of 14 years.

The heads of four presidents of the country were formed which are Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. This memorial park covers an area of 1278.45 acres and is located at a height of 5725 feet above sea level.

The idea was formed by Doane Robinson, who was a South Dakota historian. He formed the idea of getting the faces of famous people carved on the rocks in the Black Hills region so that tourism could be promoted; Mount Rushmore was selected as it had maximum exposure to the sun. Federal funds were gained due to the political patronage of the project and it was completed by 1939. It soon became an iconic symbol and it started to be used in several works of fiction. Today it attracts about two million visitors from all over the world.

On the southwestern sides lies the greater part of the Grand Canyon West which includes the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Hualapai Indian Reservations.

North Rim: Sights and Things to Do

The North Rim is open only through mid-May to mid-October. It closes during the winters because of the harsh weather conditions at the altitude. One important aspect to consider while packing for a holiday in Greece is that, people here dress more formal than their counterparts in the United States. You may carry shorts and skirts, but limit their use to the day. Evenings in Greece must be quite formal. People here do not seem to be very fond of glittery outfits and make-up. So, jeans, polo style shirts and tops, nice sandals or flip- flops seem good options to carry.
